There is no single perfect class length. The right duration depends on the children’s age, experience, energy, additional needs, group size and setting.
A useful starting guide #
For younger children or first-time groups, try around 15–25 minutes. Many primary-age groups enjoy 30–45 minutes. Older or experienced children may manage 45–60 minutes when the session includes variety, choice and calmer moments.
Follow the children #
Attention and regulation matter more than the clock. If the group becomes restless, shorten the story, change the pace or move to a calm ending. A successful shorter class is better than pushing through a planned duration.
Create a balanced shape #
Include a welcome, movement or story, breathing or mindfulness and a calm finish. Longer classes need changes of pace and opportunities for children to respond and participate.
Build up gradually #
Start shorter with a new group and extend sessions as their confidence and familiarity grow. The training explains how to use the F.L.A.R.E. structure to create a satisfying class at different lengths.
