What qualifications do I need to teach kids yoga legally?

There is no single formal qualification or Yoga Alliance accreditation that you are legally required to hold to teach kids yoga. However, if you want to teach professionally, you should have good-quality training and will usually need professional liability insurance. Schools and venues may also require safeguarding training and a background check, such as a DBS check in the UK.

Our Getting Started in Kids Yoga course is designed to prepare you to teach professionally. To receive full Cosmic Kids certification, you complete the training and submit a video of yourself teaching. Jaime assesses your teaching and gives you personal feedback. Once you meet the required standard, you receive a Cosmic Kids certificate that you can show to schools, venues and insurers.

Requirements vary between countries and organisations, so it is always worth checking locally. If you or an insurer needs more information about our training and assessment process, email us at [email protected].

What schools, venues and insurers may require #

Requirements vary by country and setting. A school, childcare provider, venue or insurer may ask to see evidence of your kids yoga training, professional or public liability insurance, safeguarding training and a background check, such as a DBS check in the UK. Check the rules that apply where you plan to teach.

How Cosmic Kids training helps #

Getting Started in Kids Yoga gives you practical training in safe, engaging story-based yoga for children. Full Cosmic Kids certification provides evidence that you have completed the course and passed our practical teaching-video appraisal. Many schools and parents are already familiar with Cosmic Kids, and also many insurers around the world recognise our certification, and so both of these things can really help if you’re looking to teach yoga in a school or community setting.

How you become certified #

You complete the online course, quizzes and recommended practice, then submit a video of yourself teaching the class provided. Jaime assesses the video and gives you personal feedback. If your teaching meets our standard for safe and inspiring kids yoga, you receive your personalised Cosmic Kids certificate.

What else you are likely to need #

In addition to good training, most professional teachers need suitable liability insurance. Schools and venues may also ask for a safeguarding or criminal-record check, such as DBS in the UK, and may have their own first-aid, risk-assessment or registration requirements.

Do I need Yoga Alliance accreditation? #

You do not normally need Yoga Alliance accreditation or an RCYT designation to teach kids yoga professionally. Cosmic Kids certification is a separate qualification. Requirements can vary between countries, employers and insurers, so please check the rules that apply to your setting.

Using your certificate #

You can show your Cosmic Kids certificate to schools, parents, venues and insurers as evidence that you have completed our training and passed the practical appraisal.
