10 Easter-Themed Activities for Kindergarten Kids

10 (Different!) Easter-Themed Activities for Kindergarten Kids

Easter is just around the corner, and it’s a time to celebrate not only with family and friends, but in the classroom too – and a great way to do this is with easter activities!

For kids, it’s a time to hunt for Easter eggs, decorate eggs, and make crafts. This holiday season is especially exciting for kindergarten-aged kids, who love to take part in fun activities that are themed around the seasons.

However, it can be challenging to think of Easter-themed activities for kids – especially for activities suitable for enjoying in a classroom, school or kindergarten environment. Of course, everyone knows about the Easter egg hunt or making an Easter basket, but that’s not always practical in a classroom, or maybe you’re looking for something a bit different this year?

If you just can’t think of anything, then don’t worry – there are many fun activities that can help kids have fun and learn during Easter.

Here are 10 Easter-themed activity ideas suitable for kindergarten aged children (and you won’t find an Easter Egg hunt on this list!):

1. Plant Easter Seeds!

If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, then Easter is a great time to plant almost anything. Planting seeds is also a great way for kids to learn about how plants grow and where some of our food comes from.

To make this Easter-themed, get some small pots and ask kids to decorate them with Easter stickers. Then, plant the seeds and label the pots. If you’re struggling to source pots, then ask your local community garden or allotment, as this way you can give old pots a new purpose.

Each day your class will be able to see the progress as each seed springs to life! This means this Easter activity will bring joy well into the summer months. Before the holidays begin, kids could even take their plants home if they wish to continue caring for them themselves.

2. Play Easter Bingo

Create a bingo game with Easter-themed pictures and play with the whole class. This is a classic and interactive activity that kids are sure to enjoy. You can use stickers, pens or eggs as markers. Grab your FREE downloadable and printable Easter-themed bingo cards from Crazy Little Projects here.

There are x8 cards in this set, so you can get your class to play in pairs or small teams depending on the size of your group!

4. Create an Easter Sensory Bin

Fill a bin with a range of sensory items and let the kids use their sense of touch and explore the contents of the bin. Items that would be perfect to use in an Easter-themed sensory bin include:

  • Eggs
  • Cotton balls (soft like Peter Rabbit’s tail!)
  • Feathers
  • Grass or green strands of coloured or tissue paper
  • Cardboard letters that spell out Easter
  • Soft toys

5. Try an Easter Colour-Matching Exercise

Create Easter-themed colour matching exercise, where kids can learn about colours. This is really simple to do. You can print baskets and eggs in different colours, cut them out and get kids to match the coloured egg with the same coloured basket!

To save you some time, we’ve made a FREE download that you can print. This PDF contains one plain-coloured Easter Egg Basket, and x6 pre-coloured eggs and baskets that you can print to use in your classroom!

6. Go on an Easter Yoga Adventure with Peter Cottontail and the Tickly Monkeys

Go on a 20-minute kids yoga adventure with Peter Cottontail and the Tickly Monkeys! On this adventure, we work out with yoga moves that get our bodies moving and stretching, improving strength and balance.

There’s also a strong moral in this adventure which is suited to Spring and Earth Day, all about looking after the planet by not littering and picking up after ourselves.

  • Watering the Garden
  • Flowers
  • Sunshine
  • Seeing a Rainbow

8. Easter Mad Libs

Easter Mad Libs is a fun game where players fill in the blanks of an Easter-themed story with silly words and phrases. The blanks in the story are usually nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, and the players fill them in without knowing the context of the story. Once all the blanks are filled in, the story is read aloud with the silly words and phrases inserted, resulting in a hilarious and nonsensical story.

Here’s an example of an Easter Mad Libs story with some of the blanks filled in:

Once upon a time, there was a(n) (adjective) Easter Bunny named (name). Every Easter, (name) would hop around the (noun) delivering (adjective) Easter eggs to all the (noun) in the world. One year, (name) decided to try something different and deliver (adjective) carrots instead. The (noun) were confused at first, but soon they realised that the carrots were even better than the eggs! From that day on, (name) became known as the (adjective) Carrot Bunny, and Easter was never the same again.

In this example, the player would have filled in the blanks with silly words or phrases, such as “fluffy” for the first blank, “Benny” for the second blank, “meadow” for the fourth blank, and “sparkly” for the sixth blank, resulting in a nonsensical story about a bunny who delivers carrots instead of eggs on Easter!

9. Easter Egg Rolling Competition

An Easter egg rolling competition is a fun game where players roll eggs down a slope or hill and see which egg can roll the farthest or fastest. It’s a traditional game played in many parts of the world during Easter.

Here’s how an Easter egg rolling competition works:

Preparation: First, you need to prepare the eggs. Hard-boiled eggs are usually used for this game, but you can also use plastic eggs if you prefer. If you’re using real eggs, you can dye them in different colours to make the game more festive and to help remember who each egg belongs to!

Choose a Slope or Hill: Next, choose a slope or hill where you can roll the eggs. The slope or hill should be fairly steep, but not so steep that the eggs will roll too quickly and be difficult to catch.

Start Rolling: Line up the players at the top of the slope or hill and have them take turns rolling their eggs down. The players can use their hands or a spoon to roll the eggs.

Determine the Winner: The winner of the game is the player whose egg rolls the farthest or fastest without cracking. You can mark the spot where each egg lands with a stick or chalk to keep track of the distances.

If you want to make the game more challenging, you can also set up obstacles along the slope or hill, such as cones or small ramps, to make it more difficult for the eggs to roll straight. You can also have players compete in teams, with each team rolling multiple eggs and the team with the farthest-rolling egg winning. Overall, an Easter egg rolling competition is a fun and festive game that’s perfect for Easter celebrations!

10. Easter Egg Balloon Balance Game

For this game, you’ll need to tape a small-ish square to the floor or use a page of newspaper and place it on the floor – this will be your ‘court’ for the game. You’ll also need a balloon as your ‘egg’!

Now, get the kids to stand on the newspaper or in the square and try to keep hitting the balloon up in the air, without stepping out of the court! You can either time the kids or do the most balloon hits wins! An alternative is to get them to balance the balloon on their heads for as long as they can without stepping out of the court!
