It's fair to say that relaxation doesn't come that naturally to most kids. Their energy can sometimes seem to be only ON or OFF. If you're a fulltime learning machine like most kids it's pretty useful to be able to go and go until you fall asleep - but over time we all realise that we need a wider range of energy levels than that and also that it's helpful to develop some awareness of how you're feeling, so you can adapt to whatever task is in front of you: if it's time to listen, for example, you need a steadier energy than when it's time to run around. If it's time to sleep, I need to be able to come down to lower energy.
It can take a while for kids to learn this - ideally it's an ongoing conversation with them that is drawing their attention to how they feel and the impact this has on their ability to learn and on those around them.
We offer our Peace Out guided relaxations in this context - as something that will help kids evolve in this way. It's a series of 4 guided visualisations and relaxations which help kids draw their attention to their feelings, helps them discover the power of their breathing to help them do this, and helps them tune their attention to the moments and places which help them.
